To apply for an account, you must come to Gates room 169 to fill out the Computer Account Request Form. Below are the policies for the application
The CSD PEDIT database will be checked to confirm your relationship with the department. Your application will not be processed if you are not in the CSD database with an appropriate relation.
Computer systems provided by the department are only intended for the following uses:
Paid for by various research projects or grants.(See a research PI to inquire about setting up such an account. The research PI will be billed and will pay for usage.) Generally, sponsored research is done on HUDSON. You will have to supply us with the faculty sponsor's signiture, account number to be charged, and quarter(s) sponsored.
Paid for by the department and arranged either by a student or by a faculty member doing the unsponsored research. Generally, unsponsored research is done on the computer named HUDSON. You must get the department chairperson's written approval.
Computing paid for by the Computer Science Department. Accounts will be on the computer named SUNBURN.
Computing available for all CS students (declared undergraduate, Masters, PhD) to do miscellaneous computing, text editing, mail, etc., but not for homework. Paid for by the department. Generally, account will be on the computer named XENON and the associated machines in the PUP cluster in Gates B21.
You will have to specify which computer you are requesting an account on: XENON or SUNBURN.
Normally, the account name is your first initial plus your last name or some other combination of your name. The account name must be 8 characters or less.
You will have to choose a temporary password which will be used to set up your account. Once you have your account, you should change your password. Use the password command (psswd) to change your password.
