Stanford Data Science and School of Engineering Joint Search

Stanford Data Science and the School of Engineering at Stanford University invite applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor or untenured associate professor level in the School of Engineering. The primary departmental home of the appointee will be in one of the departments in the School of Engineering.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D., evidence of the ability to pursue an independent program of research, a strong commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching, and the ability to initiate and conduct research across disciplines. A successful candidate will be expected to contribute creatively and in depth to data science through research, teaching, and student mentorship. We welcome candidates engaged in all aspects of data science and its applications in one or more engineering disciplines. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, and will be able to actively contribute to Stanford Data Science and their home department(s).

Assistant Professor (Research) / Junior Fellow position - HAI

The Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) at Stanford University invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor (Research) faculty position. The appointment is for a non-renewable term of five years, beginning in September 2022. The selected candidate will be appointed in an appropriate disciplinary department (e.g., Business, Communication, Computer Science, Economics, Education, History, Medicine, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology), and will be a Junior Fellow of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.

We are seeking applicants from all areas of research related to artificial intelligence, spanning theoretical foundations, systems, software, applications, and human or societal impact. We are particularly interested in researchers working at the frontiers of artificial intelligence and other disciplines, including but not limited to the humanities, business, education, law, medicine, and physical and social sciences.

Applicants must have received a doctoral degree prior to the start of the appointment, must show outstanding promise in research, and must have a strong commitment to teaching. A successful candidate will be expected to teach one course per year at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels and will be provided generous research support.
